Branice Munyasa

Doctor Branice Munyasa is a dentist and maxillofacial surgeon who has become a very visible and influential figure in the country's medical sector.

Munyasa has worked in several major health institutions in the country, including Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and the Aga Khan University Hospital, both in Nairobi.

Beyond her medical role at KNH, she is active on the internet and uses her social media platforms to promote oral health, fitness, and her personal story.

One of her most prolific contributions this year was her involvement in fundraising for a young boy named Ian Baraka, who had suffered severe facial disfigurement in a bandit attack. She ran two full marathons to raise money for Ian’s reconstructive surgery.

Her fundraising was instrumental in supporting a groundbreaking nine-hour craniofacial reconstruction surgery at KNH. Baraka's facial reconstructive surgery, done in September this year, was hailed as a global first in pediatric facial reconstruction.

Munyasa was part of the team, participating as a maxillofacial surgeon who supported this landmark procedure. KNH, in collaboration with the University of Nairobi, used advanced techniques, including a 3D-printed titanium implant, to rebuild parts of his face.

Following the landmark surgery, KNH formally recognised Dr Munyasa for her role in mobilising funds and supporting the surgical initiative.
